Ashes of Dreams - Snapshot #2

Worked more on this non-swung portion this weekend- the next phrase launches into the swung remainder of the piece... finally...

Still need to clean up a lot of this section because the chords and positions are not very conventional for me, but I at least learned the notes and got some preliminary practice in... I was stressing over the nonuplets at 1:42 because it's SO MANY NOTES for just one beat lol but after listening to the recording again it seems like the player is given a lot of liberty in interpretation... NICE!! As a side note, I'll need to loosen up the more rigid embellishments once I master the written score, but for now I want to focus on just knowing how to play what's written. Gotta know the rules before you can break 'em, right?

This section finally introduces the main theme of the piece (at 0:33) which is one of the reasons I fell in love with this arrangement... I also really loved the jazzy vibes and all the little "ornamental" runs that embellish the melody... even though they take a bit of work to get down... but I can feel my growth already through tackling these embellished bars which is really gratifying. I'm still super surprised that I was able to nail the 32nd notes near the beginning of this clip?? Amazing

There are MISTAKES in this video that I was hesitant about uploading but I mean... that's life... I still get major camera fright for whatever reason but everything else was pretty decent so that's it for today's update! Already about halfway through the piece, although I anticipate the second half will be a little more challenging to learn due to the swung rhythm, as well as the more octave-heavy portions... but super excited to finally be at the swung portion. If only I had a piano with a brighter tone to play this piece on T_T
