About Me

Hello! I work a full-time engineering job and play piano in my spare time as a hobby. I've been playing for over 20 years now, on and off- along the way, I've come to appreciate piano as a hobby and as a creative outlet (the same could not be said for child me).

I took lessons from the age of four until I entered high school. My training was less technique-based and was more music theory/composition-based (though I really do not know any terms for music theory…). There was a gap during high school and most of college where I didn't really play piano at all compared to the hours I was practicing regularly growing up, but sometime in the spring of 2017 I began to start playing frequently again in an effort to escape post-grad stress and have been keeping up ever since (mental/emotional health permitting).

I like to play through official piano collections from JRPGs, but occasionally pick up unofficial fanscriptions for specific pieces that I really like from different things.

When I’m not practicing piano, I also enjoy playing games, drawing, and studying Korean.

About the Blog

This blog was started mainly because I always find it interesting how I can start off a piece by struggling to sightread my way through and end up being able to learn the piece by heart and perform it properly. I wanted to capture that process somehow, not only for archival purposes, but also as a tool to gauge my growth/progress and to identify any weak spots.

The blog name “apiacherie” is a portmanteau of a piacere, a musical term meaning “at peace”, and cherie, meaning “beloved”. So, to me, “apiacherie” holds the meaning of “cherished leisure time”, which is my time spent playing the piano.

I have a long way to go in terms of technique, but am doing my best to improve as a pianist and also as a musician in several areas; especially, I aim to polish my piano playing both in technique and in musicality. This is my personal log where I will record that journey one step at a time.
